The society that studies neotropical birds
For many years the Center hosted the public page of the Neotropical Ornithological Society, a society founded in 1987 and devoted to the study of birds in the neotropics.
A shared home page
The Neotropical Ornithological Society was founded on 4 December 1987. Its purpose is to support research on the birds of the neotropical region and to connect the people who study them. The Center's early website carried the society's public page, including membership information and contact details.
The page was a service to the field. It gave the society a stable place on the web at a time when many small organizations had no site of their own.
The journal
The society publishes Ornitologia Neotropical, a journal of neotropical ornithology. Members receive the journal under the terms set by the society. The journal publishes research on the birds of the region, including studies of distribution, behavior, ecology, and conservation.
For current submission guidelines, subscription terms, and access options, use the society's website. The Center's earlier page is a historical record, not a current membership office.
Membership record
At the time the Center hosted the page, membership categories included students, residents of Latin American countries, residents of other countries, and libraries. Dues were paid in United States currency. The page also listed an airmail option for the journal.
Those figures are recorded on the membership page as historical information. They are not current prices. The society's own website is the right place to confirm present day dues and payment methods.
Current contact
This website does not speak for the society. For current officers, membership, conference announcements, and journal business, visit the Neotropical Ornithological Society online. If a link has changed, search for the society by name.
